On Tuesday, October 27, 2020, ORIGIN CUT, a group of barbers that tour the world offering haircuts, conducted a haircut event at the Park Avenue Building (Minami 1-jo Nishi 7, Chuo-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido).
Origin Cut is a barbershop-initiated program to promote social welfare. Many barbershops have been asked to join in the project, and in Sapporo, they have partnered up with Ueda Barbershop and a non-profit organization. At the event, thirteen persons with mental and developmental difficulties got their hair trimmed.
Origin Cut spokesperson Noritaka Iwasaki stated, "We were particularly looking forward to this project because it is our first project in Japan." It gave me hope for the future, that despite our tiny size, we will undoubtedly expand. I was thinking a lot about service while cutting hair. As a barber, you are responsible for making clients feel clean and comfortable. Even if you can't speak or get to know someone in a short period of time, you can at least make them feel something. The energy was intangible but contagious, and I knew that everyone, not just me, felt what I was feeling. Noritaka Iwasaki, an Origin Cut representative, is a traveling barber and peace ambassador. His aim is to build a worldwide community by providing haircuts to those in need and connecting individuals from all walks of life to their roots.
